The District is requesting proposals that promote environmental projects to benefit San Diego Bay. The project should focus on environmental educations, natural resources, air quality, habitat restoration, energy conservation, sediment and water quality, storm water and watershed management, endangered species, and research on the Bay's physical biological, or chemical processes and structures. Projects that support COMPASS strategic plan will receive bonus points during the third phase of the scoring process. The Board of Port Commissioners (BPC) is dedicated to protecting and improving the environmental conditions of San Diego Bay. To support the enhancement of the Bay, the BPC created a fund for projects that include “beyond compliance and beyond mitigation.” The BPC has initiated this request for proposals (RFP) to interested organizations to conduct environmental projects to benefit San Diego Bay. Projects will be overseen by the District’s Environmental and Land Use Management Department. The Environmental Fund has up to $500,000 to award per the RFP. The minimum award would be $10,000. Some projects are anticipated to be awarded at the June 2013 BPC meeting; however, projects can be awarded by the BPC at any time. Projects are anticipated to start July 1, 2013. Projects require a minimum of 30% matching funds or in-kind services. Overhead will not be considered as part of the matching funds. If a project was funded in the past, there is no guarantee of future funding. More than one application from the same organization will be considered. Multiyear projects will also be considered.
