Project Description: DESCRIPTION Remove existing signs and install an entirely new sign system on Runway 2-20 and related taxiways that meets current F.A.A. Standards. All new airfield guidance signs will conform to the requirements of Advisory Circular 150/5345-44K, Specification for Taxiway and Runway Signs. Lighted guidance signs will be LED Type L858Y, L858R, or L858L, Style 2, Size 1, Class 1. All lighted guidance signs will be installed on new or existing sign bases. Where necessary, the existing sign foundation will be extended
to accommodate the larger signs. Some existing signs will be removed complete with isolation transformers and light bases and delivered to the Airport or relocated as an unlighted sign on Runway 9-27. The existing concrete sign pads will also be removed. These signs will be installed on new concrete sign pads and will have the capability of being retrofitted to lighted guidance signs in the future. The panels in the signs being relocated as unlighted signs will be replaced with new panels to reflect the new designation in the new location. The new sign panels will match existing and fit into the existing sign. A new 2-unit Runway End Identifier Light System (REIL) will be furnished and installed at the threshold for Runway 02. This unit will be a L849I REIL, Style E, powered by constant current 6.6-amp power supply that currently powers the edge light system on Runway 2-20. A new isolation transformer and power converter will be installed in the runway circuit to power the REIL.
The REILs and power units will be mounted on new concrete foundations with supports that have frangible couplings immediately above ground level. To improve the exit from Taxiway A to the ramp, new taxiway edge lights will be installed. It is also proposed to install retroreflective taxiway edge reflectors on the hangar exit taxiways to replace broken reflectors. New taxiway edge lights will conform to the requirements of Advisory Circular 150/5345-46E, Specification for Runway and Taxiway Light Fixtures. Lights will be Type L-861T with 30-watt lamps and blue glass lenses. The lamps will either be incandescent or quartz. Taxiway edge Reinard W. Brandley Consulting Airport Engineer Engineer’s Report
Watsonville Municipal Airport April 2, 2018 AIP No. 3-06-0272-5 light assemblies will be complete with isolation transformers, light bases, base plate gaskets, and base plate bolts.
The new taxiway edge retroreflective markers will conform to the requirements of Advisory
Circular 150/5345-39D, Specification for L-853 Runway and Taxiway Edge Retroreflective
Markers. The edge markers will be Type II, Elevated Marker for Edge Marking, Soil Mount and
will be 14 inches in height. Currently the runway lights for Runway 2-20 are powered by 2 circuits using 2-4kW regulators. Also, the first 125 feet of lights on all cross taxiways from Runway 2-20 are powered by the runway circuit. The airfield guidance signs located at the hold bars of the Runway 2-20 cross taxiways are powered by the runway circuits. The circuitry will be corrected in this contract to meet all FAA requirements.
